Farmers Wakeup; Budget Day for East African Countries, 11th June 2009

June every year East African Countries have a Budget Day. during this day, Finance Ministers of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi present their national budgets to their national parliaments. After the presentations, Members of Parliament have a long sessions to debate and deliberate on the national expenditures for the following year.

The budget is the national cake , but not so many people, including small scale farmers, who make the mojority of citizens in these countries have taken interest to it. So, how are small scale farmers in the region informed to followup the debate? More particular is important for farmers to engage and have their voices in budget formulation right from the planning stage at grassroot level and follow the process all away to the parliament. Lets make the year 2009 a starting point!
